The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that more than one million Americans are living with HIV. Up to one-third of them do not know they are HIV-positive. The HIV/AIDS epidemic has cost millions of lives worldwide. The effects have also been seen in our local community.
Over 2,500 individuals from the Central Valley have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS and sadly, hundreds have died. Even today, with the advances in medicine that have led to HIV positive individuals leading long healthy lives, we are still seeing new cases of the disease.
Did you know that 10% of our population has the HIV virus and are unaware of their status? It is our hope to again raise awareness of the virus, promote healthy behaviors and reduce the spread of AIDS in our community!
